Erasmus Mundus Scholarships in Geospatial Technologies

Overview

The International Masters Program (Master of Science, M.Sc.) in Geospatial Technologies is a cooperation of

• University of Münster (WWU), Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi),
• Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Castellón, Spain, and,
• Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação (ISEGI), Lisboa, Portugal.

The Masters Program has been selected within the Erasmus Mundus Program of the European Commission (2007-0064/001 FRAME MUNB123). The following grants are open for applications (the exact numbers have still to be confirmed):

• 7 financial contributions to EU students (in this context nationals from EU Member States and EEA-EFTA countries). The financial contribution includes a support towards living costs of 500 € per month (9.000 € in total – to be confirmed), coverage of tuition fees of 1.500 € per semester (4.500 € in total), and an insurance package.
• 1 full scholarship to students from the Western Balkans and Turkey Window. Full scholarships include a contribution to travel, installation and all other types of costs (8.000 € in total – to be confirmed), monthly allowances of 1.000 € per month (18.000 € in total – to be confirmed), coverage of tuition fees of 3.500 € per semester (10.500 € in total), and an insurance package.


• 8 full scholarships to third country students (other nationals than EU and Window students above). Full scholarships include a contribution to travel, installation and all other types of costs (8.000 € in total – to be confirmed), monthly allowances of 1.000 € per month (18.000 € in total – to be confirmed), coverage of tuition fees of 3.500 € per semester (10.500 € in total), and an insurance package.
• 2 scholarships for third country scholars (visiting researchers). Scholarships include a lump sum of 7.200 € (to be confirmed) for supporting all types of costs.

Target students

The Masters program targets holders of a Bachelors degree with a qualification in application areas of Geographic Information (GI). Applicants with professional experience after their degree are very welcome. Degree holders already acquired similar qualification as offered in the Masters Program in Geospatial Technologies are discouraged from application.

The students’ application will be evaluated by an equal number of representatives of the three partner universities. Evaluation criteria are:

•Bachelor degree (grade)
•English language skills
•High-level academic achievements
•Expertise in GI application areas
•Professional or other experience in application areas that can benefit from GI technologies
•Motivation for the study program
•Social and multi-cultural competencies
•Formal aspects of application

Target scholars

Scholars are expected to conduct research in the context of ongoing research projects and teach within the study program of the hosting universities. Please check the homepage or contact the program coordinator at each university regarding their research and teaching priorities. Academic achievements and research and teaching experience in the field of GI Science are essential.

The application procedure for scholars is the same as for students, apart from additional telephone interviews via Skype, to be performed by the receiving partner with pre-selected applicants. Selection criteria are:

•Bachelor degree (grade)
•Master degree/doctorate (grade)
•Master degree/doctorate (relevance of topic)
•English language skills
•High-level academic achievements
•Experience in GI research, relevant for the scholar program
•Experience in GI teaching, relevant for the scholar program
•Motivation for the scholar program
•Social and multi-cultural competencies
•Formal aspects of application
•Skype/telephone interview

Application deadline

• Application for scholarships: January 15
• Start of the Masters program: September 1
