Welcome to the International Max Planck Research School for Molecular and Cellular biology (IMPRS-MCB) - a joint international PhD program of the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology (MPI-IB) and the University of Freiburg.

As an IMPRS-MCB PhD student you will
•work on exciting scientific projects addressing the hot topics of molecular and cellular biology

Requirements
A PhD in Europe usually takes 3-4 years, but you need to have both a BSc and MSc or equivalent (4-5 years of studies) before enrolling. Integrated MSc/PhD programs are not very common.
You can apply if you have:
•MSc/Diploma in Biology/Biomedicine/Biochemistry or related subject (to be obtained latest 6 months after the application deadline)
•GPA >80%, first or upper second class degree (lower GPA can be accepted for applicants who belong to the best 10% of students - please provide grade distribution statistics from your college/faculty)
•Excellent English language skills (mother tongue or TOEFL/IELTS or equivalent certificate recommended but not obligatory)
•Practical lab experience
Please understand that we can accept only up to 10 of the best students per round. The satisfaction of our requirements doesn't guarantee you a position at IMPRS-MCB.
Financial Support during your PhD studies
Our students are all fully paid during the whole time of their PhD (3-4 years). They are mostly granted a stipend of 1468 Euros per month. In some cases students receive a monthly salary of 1000-1100 Euros which includes all statutory insurances (health, pension, unemployment, child support).
There are no obligatory semester fees to be paid.
The monthly living costs in Freiburg amount to 800 to 900 Euros including accommodation and are therefore easily covered by the stipend or salary.

Your application should be submitted using our Online Application System. You should register and fill in all required information and upload required documents. All information is automatically saved and you can log in and log out until you are satisfied with your application.

•Statement of your Research Interests

•Photo
•English language certificate (recommended if not native speaker, not mandatory)
•Certificates of your degrees (Diploma, MSc, BSc or Equivalent)
•Transcripts of your academic education (MSc and BSc or equivalent)
•Results of knowledge tests (GRE, GATE or equivalent, if available - not mandatory)
•References (to be sent directly to us by your referees)
