Overview
A Postdoc position at the National Space Institute, Technical University of Copenhagen (DTU Space) is available as soon as possible. The Postdoc will be attached to the Geodynamics Department, and work on international projects related to earth observation from satellites and aircraft, especially related to the monitoring of the ice sheets (EU project “Ice2Sea”, www.ice2sea.eu). The Postdoc will also be expected to contribute to other cryosphere-related research and contract tasks in the Department, as need arise.
The Geodynamics Dept. does research and development in physical geodesy, gravity field and cryosphere, and is a part of the Danish Continental Shelf Project. The department has a staff of 12. Major projects 2011 will focus on the Arctic, Antarctica and South-East Asia, with additional minor projects in Greenland in support of the Greenland Climate Research Center and ice advice for oil exploration.
Job description
-Research and development related to the use of the satellite missions (especially GRACE, and altimetry mission such as ICESat and CryoSat), for the understanding of changes in the ice sheets of the earth (Greenland and Antarctica), including the use of supplementary data such as GPS uplift and airborne data
-Limited participation in airborne lidar and radar field campaigns in polar regions
-Participate in preparation and processing of data from field campaigns
-Participation in other DTU-Space tasks relating to icesheet and sea-ice changes
Qualifications
-Ph.d. degree or equivalent in geophysics, geodesy or a related field is required
-Demonstrated ability to write scientific papers
-Good knowledge of programming and large-scale data handling will be an asset
-Some international travel activity can be expected, including participation in field activities and for coordination meetings
