UK: Jurek Piasecki Young Potential Leaders Programme MBA Scholarships

Overview

At Manchester Business School, we believe there is an essential need to invest in and develop young British talent who can rise to the future challenges of the global business environment and make a real difference as socially responsible business managers and leaders.

With the aim of nurturing and fast-tracking future talent, we have decided to provide Full-time MBA programme opportunities for up to five very talented high-flyers. These individuals will demonstrate high potential for rapid career advancement and a track record of using their talent to improve society.

* To be considered, you need to be a British citizen and also have been ordinarily resident in the UK (i.e. the UK is your main place of residence) for a consecutive period of three years prior to the start of the Full-time MBA programme (22 August 2011).

MBA Scholarships

We are delighted to announce that the Young Potential Leaders programme is being supported by two scholarships kindly donated by one of our MBS alumni, Jurek Piasecki. Outstanding candidates accepted to the programme will be considered for two scholarship awards of up to £17,000.

Candidates may be considered for 2011 entry or a deferred place for 2012.

Young British potential leader MBA candidate criteria:

As a young British potential leader, you will stand out from your peers. You should have the learning ability, cognitive agility and emotional intelligence to benefit from the opportunities and challenges of a world class full-time MBA programme.


You will have a burning ambition to fast-track your career in business combined with a high level of integrity and a desire to give back to the country in which we live.

Learning Ability and Achievements

•First Class Honours degree in any subject and GCSE Mathematics, minimum grade B.
•In addition, you should be a balanced individual with strong achievements outside the academic environment.
•2nd Language to a competent level: GCSE level or above

Experience

•Up-to three years’ post-graduation professional work experience, demonstrating higher than average performance compared to peers.
•Alternatively, If you have no formal full-time work experience, you should ideally have taken an internship or work placement as part of your degree, an exchange programme abroad or gap year spent volunteering.

Potential

•Able to demonstrate potential leadership through professional, personal or volunteering experiences, e.g. taking on roles of leadership or responsibility either at work, university or in society, taking on significant challenges etc.

Cognitive Agility

•Numerate with a good grasp of economic affairs and International awareness. You will be able to think critically, laterally and logically and integrate ideas.
Emotionally Intelligent

•Highly articulate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Able to build credibility in relationships and influence other people and groups. On the MBA programme you will need to deal comfortably with international students with significant professional experience, potential employers and project clients.
Personal Characteristics

•Dynamic, ambitious, enthusiastic and energetic with exceptional maturity, self-confidence and self-awareness; open to change and personal growth. You will need to be able to rise to challenges and handle personal stress and demanding situations.

How to apply:

Stage 1: To be considered for one of the five young British potential leader MBA places, please submit the following:

CV/Resume outlining your academic, personal and professional experiences and achievements

Written application addressing the three points below (maximum three pages A4 in total)

1.Tell us about your academic, personal and professional achievements and how you meet the admissions criteria outlined above.
2.What makes you stand out as a young potential leader?
3.As a young potential leader, tell us how strong communication and interpersonal skills have helped you to achieve your personal and professional goals and how you will contribute to the unique Manchester Business School MBA learning environment.
References:

•An academic reference from your university.
•Two references as applicable from:
◦Line-manager for your internship/work placement or current job
◦Exchange programme
◦Gap year volunteering organisation
◦Other role of responsibility or leadership.
Stage 2: Short-listed candidates will be invited to a selection day at Manchester Business School (Monday 18 February or Monday 4 July 2011) and may be required to take the GMAT.
