Edinburgh: Roslin Institute Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Job Description

The postdoctoral scientist will develop a novel research programme, as outlined in a recently awarded BBSRC LINK grant, to develop a novel approach to production of bioactive molecules for veterinary use. This is based on the production of recombinant proteins in the eggs of transgenic hens, as exemplified by Lillico et al (2007) PNAS 104, 1771. The successful applicant will carry out high quality original research, using a solid knowledge of molecular and protein biology. The applicant will present the results of the research in refereed publications, presentations and international conferences and will develop close links with key personnel at the industrial partner.

Person Specification

Essential

A PhD with experience in modern molecular biology techniques, including at least some of the following techniques: gene cloning, gene expression analysis, cell biology, cell culture and protein purification and analysis. Highly motivated and ready to drive a project, in consultation with grant PIs and industrial partner. Good person skills and willingness to collaborate. The ability to collaborate effectively with a number of different people, and to coordinate a complex project is key. Effective communication of research to colleagues and the public is also important.


Desirable

Experience of preparation of lentiviral vectors and purification of recombinant proteins would be valuable.

Salary

The role is grade [insert grade] and attracts an annual salary of £ to £ [insert salary range] for [insert hours] hours, [part time], [delete if not applicable.] each week. Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month. Salaries for part-time staff are calculated on the full-time scales, pro-rata to the Standard Working Week.

Immigration
