Overview
A Master of Science (Research) Scholarship is currently on offer to work within a multidisciplinary team at the University of Wollongong with personnel from the Biomechanics Research Laboratory in the School of Health Sciences and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Electromaterials Science. The successful applicant will work on an externally-funded project, which is investigating treatment devices for patients who suffer from breast cancer-related lymphoedema.
The scholarship is supported by the Lympheodema Support Group, Wollongong.
The successful candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science, Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Physics or a related discipline, and should have an interest in biomechanical research. The candidate will be expected to conduct research concerned with aspects of the biomechanics of the upper limb and lympheodema and the efficacy of emerging therapies in this area based on the use of electromaterials. Skills in motion capture, pressure measurement, mathematical modelling and electronics are desirable. In addition to research duties, the successful applicant will be required to report their research outcomes at regular meetings and in annual progress reports, as well as the preparation of scientific papers for publication.
The scholarship is worth $30,000 for the duration of the MSc (Research) programme. An upgrade to a PhD can be considered contingent to academic performance and suitability of the candidate at the earliest 18 months after commencement of the MSc programme however, funding for the PhD programme will need to be sought by the candidate. Domestic and international applicants are welcome. Commencement date for the scholarship is negotiable but should not be later than 27 February 2012.
