Chevening scholarships for Indonesian and East Timorese Students

Overview

Chevening is the flagship scholarship scheme of the British Government. Many talented graduates and young professional Indonesian and East Timorese nationals have been supported by the Chevening programme, which has seen over 1,000 scholarships awarded since the scheme began in 1984.

Largely funded by the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Scholarship scheme also receives contributions from Higher Education Institutes and other organisations in the UK, as well as from a wide range of overseas sponsors including governmental and private sector bodies. In Indonesia we currently have a local partnership scheme with PT Prudential Indonesia and also receive sponsorship from HSBC which enables us to provide additional jointly funded scholarships

Chevening - 2012/13

Chevening 2012/13 scholarships are now open for applications. Applications should be made via the website:https://www.chevening.fco.gov.uk/CheveningApplications/CA_Start.aspx.The deadline for applications for Chevening Scholarships in Indonesia and East Timor is 15 January 2012.
As in previous years we plan to offer around 30 scholarships for one year Master’s degrees at United Kingdom Higher Education Institutes.  The scholarships will cover living costs, tuition fees (up to £12,000) and return airfares.
All candidates are encouraged to start researching appropriate postgraduate courses at UK institutions and making applications directly to them as appropriate.  However we recommend that candidates do not make any financial commitments until final confirmation of a Chevening scholarship award has been received.

Selection Criteria

The Chevening scheme is highly competitive. Scholars are chosen on the basis that they will become opinion formers and decision-makers likely to exert a positive influence on the Indonesia-UK relationship. We are looking for people with drive, ambition, and leadership potential who are committed to change and organisation development and display a talent for innovation and creativity. Candidates should be aware that Chevening scholarships are aligned with delivery of the FCO’s priorities.
