Chevening Cambridge Scholarships for Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Overview

Have you recently enrolled, or are about to enrol, on a postgraduate course in the UK? Do you want help with funding your studies? Are you already experienced in your chosen career? Would you like to develop your career and become part of an influential global alumni network? Then a British Chevening Scholarship could be right for you.

WHAT IS A CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP?

The Chevening Scholarship Scheme is the UK's most prestigious scholarship scheme for foreign students. Its aim is to enable current and future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers to study in the UK and make a positive contribution to their own countries upon their return. Many former Chevening scholars have gone on to be leaders in their fields, and indeed, even leaders of their countries.

Scholarships are awarded to young professionals at the early- to mid-career stage in any field, although applicants should be able to demonstrate how their studies will benefit their countries.

In Sri Lanka and the Maldives, the UK offers a small number of scholarships a year.

THE CHEVENING CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

In the academic year 2012/2013, we are also pleased to launch the Chevening Cambridge Scholarship Programme, in partnership with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. We will offer a limited number of scholarships tenable only at the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in the UK.

For more information, please see: http://ukinsrilanka.fco.gov.uk/en/visiting-uk/studying-in-uk/our-scholarships/Chevening-Cambridge.

ELIGIBILITYThe scheme is opened to graduates in the early- to mid-stages of a professional or academic career in the government/private sector or at a non-governmental organisation. The emphasis is on study at the postgraduate level. Applicants should be considering study in any field relevant to one or more of the UK government’s strategic international priorities, which can be accessed at http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/what-we-do/our-priorities/. Particular priority will be given to applicants who will work to promote good governance or benefit socio-economic or environmental development in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
