Overview
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is pleased to announce that the RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) in North America program will be offered again in summer 2010. Through the program, researchers in science and engineering in the U.S. and Canada may host German RISE interns coming to North America.
Like their counterparts in Germany, the RISE in North America interns will assist in research and lab work. The interns, who are students in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences (geology), engineering, and closely related fields, receive a DAAD scholarship to help cover living expenses and travel costs.
Benefits for This Program
Participating researchers receive invaluable assistance with their own work. They profit both professionally and personally from contact with the RISE in North America interns by getting a chance to deepen their knowledge of the culture, lifestyle and higher education system in Germany. PhD students are especially encouraged to participate because they, in particular, can benefit by learning how to guide and serve as a mentor to younger students. The program also offers an excellent opportunity to establish academic partnerships with universities in Germany or to intensify already existing transatlantic networks.
Who will profit from the program and how?
The North American researchers through
■Assistance with their experimental work
■Stimulation of scientific discussion
■Development of soft skills and skills in personnel management, which are of special importance to PhD students
■New contacts with German universities
How to apply
Research groups interested in hosting a German research assistant in the summer of 2010 are invited to submit project proposals at: www.daad.de/rise-northamerica
Proposal Deadline: January 11, 2010
