New Zealand: College of Business Doctoral Scholarship - Massey University

Overview

The College of Business Doctoral Scholarship is the premier scholarship offered in the College of Business. Its purpose is to foster excellent doctoral research. It is tenable at any of the university's three physical campuses (Wellington, Palmerston North, Albany).

Currently, one Scholarship is offered each year. The awarding of the College of Business Doctoral Scholarship is discretionary and is dependent upon funding.

Eligibility

The College of Business Doctoral Scholarship is open to persons who are enrolled or eligible to enrol full-time for a research paper of 120 credits during a 12 month period towards a Doctoral degree in the College of Business at Massey University. A full-time candidate will be expected to work 40 - 50 hours per week on their Doctoral qualification. Part-time applicants are not eligible. Applicants already holding a PhD are not eligible to apply. Consideration will normally only be given to students with a GPA of 7.5 or better (on a 9 point scale) in graduate level papers. Applicants who are completing their Honours or Masters thesis or research report must be due to submit by the end of the year (for October applications).

Value of This Scholarship

The value of the College of Business Doctoral Scholarship shall be $25,000 per annum plus fees (of $ 3,500 per year) for a maximum of 3 years.

The College of Business Scholarships Committee may reduce the value or amend the terms and conditions of the scholarship to meet the circumstances of individual applicants.

Criteria

The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit. The scholarship is, in principle, available for any research topic for which supervisors can be found in the College of Business, i.e. it is not restricted to a particular business discipline. However, in awarding the College of Business Doctoral Scholarship the Selection Committee shall give consideration to the relevance of the topic to the College of Business Mission Statement (http://www.massey.ac.nz/massey/depart/cob/about-cob/mission-statement/mission-statement_home.cfm) and to prior recipients of the scholarship with a view to distributing funds across disciplines represented in the College.

Responsibility for the Award

The Scholarship shall be awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the Chair of the College of Business Research Scholarship Selection Committee.

Research Scholarship Selection Committee

The College of Business Research Scholarship Selection Committee shall consist of three members, i.e. the College of Business Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) or nominee, and two further members nominated by the College of Business Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) or nominee. One of these shall be the COB representative on the University Scholarships committee. The Chairperson can invite further members on a case-by-case basis if their special expertise is required.

Applicants holding academic qualifications from all countries other than New Zealand, Australia, Germany, or the United States of America must arrange a course by course evaluation by:

Successful applicants will need to provide proof of payment (i.e. a receipt), in order for reimbursement to be made with the first monthly stipend.
