USA: O’Neill Institute Fellowships at Georgetown University

Overview

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law is seeking exceptionally qualified candidates to serve as O’Neill Institute Fellows. The Institute integrates its academic mission with research to provide innovative solutions for the leading health problems in the United States and globally—from infectious and chronic diseases to health care financing and health systems.

The Institute is structured as a partnership between Georgetown University Law Center and the School of Nursing and Health Studies, and also draws upon the University’s intellectual resources in the School of Medicine, the Public Policy Institute, and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics. Details about the ongoing work of O’Neill can be found at

www.law.georgetown.edu/oneillinstitute/.

Fellows are based at the Law Center and report to the O’Neill Institute Executive Director. Fellows split their time between policy projects, faculty research and writing projects, and independent academic and policy projects. Policy projects include preparation of white papers, organization of research colloquia and expert meetings, coordination of interdisciplinary research teams, and grant writing.

Academic projects involve working closely with faculty to produce scholarly works for publication. In some cases, this work will result in joint publication. Independent academic and/or policy projects are self-motivated with mentoring from Institute affiliated faculty if desired. Allocation of time is determined in part by Institute needs and in part by Fellow preferences. Fellowships will be for 1 or 2 years, and will start in September 2010. Salary will be $63,281 with outstanding benefits.

Eligible Candidates

Candidates should have their J.D. degree, and exceptional academic credentials, including publication, strong research interests, and knowledge or experience in aspects of national or global health law and ethics, such as public health, empirical studies, regulation, financing, and/or human rights. Candidates with a health degree or significant health policy experience may be preferred. In exceptional cases, candidates without a J.D. will be considered. Application should be made by letter or email, with accompanying CV, writing sample, professional references, official law school transcript, and other graduate school transcript (if applicable).

The application deadline is February 15, 2010.
