USA: Postdoctoral Scholar position at UC-Berkeley: Characterization of protein complexes

Overview

The Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI) at The University of California Berkeley invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar Employee position starting March May 2010 in the EBI. A doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, chemistry or related discipline is required.

The position is funded by an EBI grant to Professor Markus Pauly. The project entails the characterization of protein complexes involved in the synthesis of plant cell wall polysaccharides. Through genomic tools gene candidates have been identified in the Pauly lab that are thought to form protein complexes in the plant Golgi apparatus for the synthesis of wall polysaccharides. Indeed, it has been previously shown by fluorescence microscopy of GFP-tagged versions of the encoded proteins that some candidate-proteins interact, and characterization of their respective Arabidopsis mutant lines showed an alteration in their polysaccharide structure.

The project is to continue with additional candidate-genes and their proteins. For further information see the Pauly-website (http://epmb.berkeley.edu/facPage/dispFP.php?I=1635). Applicants with previous experience in protein-protein interactions are encouraged to apply.

Application and How to Apply

The deadline for applications is February 1, 2010. Salary range is $35,508-$43,500, depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants should submit a resume, a summary of research experience, and a statement outlining why they are qualified for this particular project via e-mail to Dr. Markus Pauly (mpauly69@berkeley.edu) or by mail to Markus Pauly, Energy Biosciences Institute, Calvin Laboratory MC5230, University of California Berkeley, Berkeley, CA, 94720-5230. Three confidential letters of reference should be sent under separate cover. Please refer referees to the University's statement on confidentiality, found at:
