UK: Postgraduate Scholarship in Experimental Psychology, University of Bristol

Overview

The Experimental Psychology Department seeks applicants who wish to study for a PhD degree. Candidates should hold or expect to gain a first-class degree in Psychology or a related field (2.1 degrees will also be given consideration).

Funding

1 ESRC, 1 BBSRC, 1 EPSRC and possibly 1 University of Bristol PhD studentships available from October 2010. Research council studentships will provide fees plus maintenance for home students (fees only for EU students who have not been resident in the UK for three years prior to starting the PhD). The University of Bristol studentship is available to all student, including international.

Research strengths and supervision cover:

•Biological psychology. Neuropsychology, psychophysiology (especially EEG), neuropsychiatry, appetite and weight control, psychopharmacology of caffeine, nicotine and alcohol; malingering, post-operative recovery, and glucose.
•Developmental psychology. Naïve reasoning, developmental psychopathology, Autism, Williams and Down syndromes, cognitive development including theory of mind and gaze processing.
•Psychology of language. Speech perception/production, language and thought, reading, dyslexia, computational modelling.


•Memory. Working memory and its relation to reasoning and intelligence, memory for serial order, verbal and visuo-spatial working memory, working memory and attention, computational models of memory.
•Social psychology. Social cognition, impression formation, group perception, stereotype formation, attitudes, attractiveness, evolutionary psychology, adult attachment, relationships.
•Vision. Motion perception, colour perception, visually guided action, eye movements, ergonomics, neuropsychology of vision.
