The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), National University of Singapore (NUS)
The Washington Center is a non-profit organization whose strategic location in the heart of downtown D.C. (just six blocks from the White House!) creates a window of opportunity to a broad range of partnerships. The Washington Center seeks to produce not only future leaders in their professions, but also well-informed citizens who are public-spirited and civically engaged. As a Washington Centre intern, you will have ample opportunities to meet other fellow interns, have fun and discover one of the world’s liveliest and most engaging cities. Internship programs available
TWC internships offer an extensive selection of programs ranging from advocacy, service and arts programs to political and business programs. Sample internship placements have included Amnesty International, National Mental Health Association, The Smithsonian Institution, United Nations Association, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and The World Bank amongst many others.
Apart from these, regardless of your specific program, all students participate in the Leadership Forum. This Forum gives you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet distinguished leaders from the business, nonprofit and government sectors as well as the diplomatic community. Students can expect to attend The President’s Lecture Series and Embassy Visits Program amongst many others. For this internship program, the duration for the Summer semester is 10 weeks and the duration for Spring and Fall semesters is 10 weeks.
Funding
Funding/ financial aid will be available through IRO for potential interns at TWC to cover their airfare as well as settling allowance (up to a maximum of SGD 2000).
Condition
Students must show proof of ability to afford living expenses
** Unless fully funded by International Leaders Award (Not applicable for Summer)
International Leaders Award
Due to the generous contribution of the Coca-Cola Foundation, TWC is offering to NUS a scholarship annually (*Note: this award is applicable for students going for Fall and Spring Term only) for our students to participate in their program. This student will be selected out of the shortlisted candidates. This award covers the tuition of the program for the selected student. Awardees must still cover all other expenses, including the application fee, housing, airfare, health insurance and living expenses. Recipients of this award are chosen competitively on the basis of their leadership, academic achievement and vision for global community development.
Application and Selection
Applications should reach IRO at least 10 days before the TWC’s application deadline to allow for processing. Please refer to the table below for application deadlines:

IRO Deadline: 23rd Jan 2010
TWC Competitive Deadline: 1st Feb 2010
And for Fall Semester 2010
(3rd Sept ‘10– 19th Dec ‘10)
IRO Deadline: 23rd April 2010
TWC Competitive Deadline: 3rd May 2010
As the places are highly competitive, students should have a minimum CAP of 3.75 to apply.
