Overview
The position will involve conducting synthetic, catalytic and characterization experiments on organometallic complexes. The duties will include the synthesis and full characterization of these reactions using modern analytical techniques including NMR, IR and X-Ray spectroscopic studies. A detailed CV including experience and publication list highlighting your experience in synthesis and catalysis is required.
Eligibility
You must have at least 3 years experience in the area of organic chemistry, experience in microwave synthesis and in transition metal mediated reactions, and you must hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry.
These posts are initially for a period of one year, starting on 5 January 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter with the possibility of an extension for a second year.
Responsibility and Duty
It is expected that you will undertake the following representative work activities:
+ Develop research objectives/proposals
+ Manage and conduct own research activities
+ Analyse research data and draw conclusions on the outcomes
+ Disseminate and publish research findings (individually or in collaboration with Colleagues)
+ May be required to contribute to overall direction/aims/development of research programme
+ May be required to prepare proposals/applications for research grants
+ Use initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop new research methods and extend the research portfolio
+ Plan and manage own administrative activities
+ Deal with problems affecting the achievement of research objectives and deadlines including using initiative and creativity to solve some unforeseen problems
+ Supervision of students or less experienced research staff including assessing work/projects
+ Possess sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge and experience in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes
