Overview
Post Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Health Financing
Post Status: Three-year contract
Discipline/School/Faculty: Centre for Health Policy and Management, School of Medicine
Reports to: Dr Steve Thomas
Closing Date: Until position is filled
Salary: €35,000 per annum
Postdoctoral Researcher in Health Financing
Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral researcher position in the “Resilience of the Irish Health System: Surviving and utilising the economic contraction”project at Trinity College Dublin. This is an HRB funded project led by Dr Steve Thomas, Centre for Health Policy and Management, located at Foster Place, College Green just off the main campus of Trinity College Dublin, Dublin 2. (http://www.medicine.tcd.ie/health_policy_management/)
Project Background: The Irish economy has been hit particularly badly by the global economic downturn with knock-on effects for the funding of the health sector. The aim of the “Resilience” project is to develop guidelines on how the Irish health system might both withstand and benefit from the current economic crisis, and to provide strategies to strengthen the Irish health system in anticipation of future crises. A useful concept is that of resilience, defined as “the capacity of a system to absorb disturbance and reorganize while undergoing change so as to still retain essentially the same function, structure, identity and feedbacks”
Applicants will have a strong research record including publications (relative to career stage), and be highly motivated and dynamic. Experience in statistical analysis is required. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate familiarity with public sector financing, the determinants of health system performance across countries and health policy analysis. Excellent writing and good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
The position will commence as soon as possible.
This is a three-year position with competitive salary (and pension contributions) dependent upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications to date.
Applicants are encouraged to apply from within any of the following fields:
- Health Financing and Economics
- Public Economics
- Policy Analysis
Application Procedure
To apply please email a PDF copy of a brief cover letter and CV including publications list, description of research interests, names and contact information of 2-3 referees to steve.thomas@tcd.ie . Informal inquiries may also be directed to the same address.
