Overview
The Bristol Robotics Laboratory (Faculty of Environment and Technology) has received a prestigious EPSRC Fellowship award and is now seeking to employ two PhD researchers in Microbial Fuel Cells.
The first successful applicant will be working on:
•Self sustainable cathodes for Microbial Fuel Cells
The second successful applicant will be working on:
•Waste and wastewater clean-up using Microbial Fuel Cells
The funding for the two projects is available from November 2010 for a period of 3½ years, subject to satisfactory progress, and attracts a tax free stipend of £13,590 pa. The successful applicants will be positioned in BRL, working with the famous EcoBot series of robots and become part of the Energy Autonomy group. The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to experience the diverse nature of the robotics field, work closely with the Microbiology group (Health & Life Sciences) and receive excellent training in research methods and support in developing as independent researchers.

Successful applicants will have a 2:1 or first degree or MSc in biotechnology or microbiology or related subjects (e.g. electrochemistry, MFC technology) and recent experience of practical research project work. Interested applicants should submit a completed application form (available from http://www.uwe.ac.uk/cems/graduateschool/research/applying.shtml) together with contact details of two referees, plus a covering letter. Tuition fees are waived for the duration of the project for Home/EU students. International applicants would need to pay the difference between Home and Overseas fees, approx £6000 pa.
