Japanese Government (MEXT) Masters and PhD Scholarships, Japan

Overview

The graduate school of Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University establishes international programs that allow students to earn degrees through programs conducted entirely in English language.

■Master's Program

Aims to offer students a broader prospective and deeper knowledge to equip them with research abilities in specialized fields and advanced competences necessary for professional careers. Students will take classes offered in English. Full time attendance for two years is necessary for a master’s course. It is necessary to obtain the number of credits set by each graduate school, receive supervision in the fields of their study, and pass the thesis and final examinations.

■Doctoral Program

Aims to help students develop specialized knowledge and research competences required of researchers and professionals with expertise in their fields. To obtain the doctoral degree, three years of postgraduate study with guidance is necessary, as a general rule. Students must also submit a doctoral dissertation and pass the thesis and final examinations.


Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 9 Master’s or Doctoral candidates entering in September 2011 (MEXT stands for Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) This scholarship is awarded for foreign students who are accepted to International Graduate Program (Master’s and Doctoral Program) after entrance examination (AO method). This Scholarship provides monthly allowance of 158,000 Yen for two years, Screening fees (refunded after enrollment), Tuition Fees and a round trip air ticket to Japan.

How to apply for Scholarships

Applicants for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship should submit the following documents by January 7, 2011.

1. Completed application form.
2. For a doctor’s course, an official transcript showing the applicant's academic performance from both an undergraduate and a master's course. For a master’s course, an official transcript showing the applicant's academic performance from an undergraduate course.
3. Two confidential recommendation letters in the specific form.
Each letter should be in a sealed envelope with signature of the recommender over the flap of envelope and should be sent to the Faculty of Science and Engineering directly.
