Overview
At the Department of Signals and Systems, we conduct world-leading research in biomedical engineering, antennas and signal processing, control, automation and mechatronics, and communication systems. Our research deals to a large extent with the modeling and development of efficient systems for extracting and processing information.
This Ph.D student positions is a part of Chalmers Area of Advance in Transport. The vision in this area is to be among the internationally leading universities with regards to green, safe and efficient future transport systems. To achieve this, we are building on a wide range of disciplines and close connection between research and higher education and on an intense cooperation with industry and societal actors.
Job description
In response to the need for clean, efficient, safe and sustainable transportation the position invites applicants who are willing to contribute to the research area of advanced intelligent transport system design. Activities will involve research on;
• vehicle and vehicle flow modelling and analysis,
• efficient system design by optimal autonomous applications,
• detection and identification of relevant unattended events, failures,
• elaborate novel fault tolerant Intelligent Transport Systems.
The position aims at finding novel safe and optimal methods to nowadays most urgent claims against ITS by developing fault tolerant and energy efficient solutions. The applicant should have an interest in both academic and applied research to be successful. We invite candidates interested in ground transport and traffic applications to submit their application.
Required qualifications
Applicants should hold an M.Sc. degree (civilingenjörsexamen) in, preferably, mechanical, electrical, control or transportation engineering resp. engineering physics or related fields.
Good analytical and communication (both oral and written) skills and ability to work independently as well as become an active team member. Excellent command of English language is needed.
Knowledge of software like MATLAB, VISSIM, C++ is an advantage. As PhD positions also involve taking part in the undergraduate education, and teaching activities in the B.Sc. programs are conducted in Swedish (English in M.Sc. programs), Swedish language is also an advantage.
Details about employment
PhD student positions are limited to five years and will include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties. For PhD student positions, monthly salary is specified in Chalmers' general agreement.
