Overview
The JDS Scholarship Program is to provide nationalities of Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Kyrgyz, Laos, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Tajikistan with opportunities for academic research at Japanese higher educational institutions under the Grant Aid assistance by Government of Japan. The Human Resource Development Scholarship Program (JDS) is designed to support the developing countries that have a high demand for human resource development in legislation, economy, management and international relations.
The purpose of the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) program is to support human resource development in countries that receive Japanese grant aid, targeting highly capable, young government officials and others who are expected to engage in formulating and implementing social and economic development plans and to become leaders in their countries.
JDS fellows shall contribute to an expanded and enhanced foundation for bilateral relations between their countries and Japan as persons having well-rounded knowledge of Japan.
JDS fellows will acquire expert knowledge, conduct research, and build human networks in the master degree program at Japanese universities, and are expected to use such knowledge to take an active role in solving practical problems of the social and economic development issues that their countries are facing.
Target Group
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Kyrgyz, Laos, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Tajikistan.
The JDS Program targets young government officers for public sector, researchers, business people and others with the potential to play leadership roles in their specialties after return to each country as well as to become leaders in their homeland in the 21st century.
Scholarship Value
JDS covers full tuition fees to university, living expenses, air ticket, research and other expenses.
Fields of Study
This Program is implemented by the related Ministry of the respective countries, Government of Japan and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). These JDS fellows have been sent to Japanese higher educational institutions to study the following subjects, depending on the targeted countries:

Doshisha University, Hiroshima University, Hitotsubashi University, International Christian University, International University of Japan, Keio University, Kobe University, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, Meiji University, Nagoya University, Osaka University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Ritsumeikan University, Tokai University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Toyo University, University of Tsukuba, Waseda University and Yamaguchi University.
