Would you like the opportunity to extend your knowledge of the alcohol and other drug field through original research?
The National Drug Research Institute (NDRI), one of Australia’s leading alcohol and other drug research centres, has been granted funds by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing for two PhD Scholarships.
The Scholarships
The three-year scholarships will be for doctoral research into the prevention or reduction of alcohol and/or other drug related harm. The scholarship carries an annual stipend of $27,638 (indexed to inflation).
While the scholarships are only available to students enrolled or intending to enrol at the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University in Perth, the possibility exists for students to undertake research from a remote site.
The Institute
Applications are invited in any of these broad research areas:
- Young people and alcohol
- Preventing and responding to alcohol and/or other drug problems in Indigenous communities
- Prevention and early intervention with alcohol and/or other drug problems
- Preventing and responding to alcohol and/or other drug problems in the criminal justice system.
Staff are available to supervise in each of these areas and across a range of disciplines including psychology, epidemiology, public health, sociology and anthropology.
The Application
Applications are invited from anyone with a health or relevant social science background. A good honours degree or its equivalent is required. Applications should include the following:
- A curriculum vitae
- Copy of academic record
- Education qualifications
- A brief description of previous research experience, if any
- A possible thesis topic area or areas
- explanation of how the topic relates to NDRI’s mission and strategic plan
- A brief statement about reasons for studying at NDRI.
