Postdoc position Statistics for neuronal network formation, Netherlands

The VU University Amsterdam is one of the leading institutions for higher education in Europe. The Faculty of Sciences consists of four departments, with 600 employees including researchers, lecturers, full- and part-time professors.

The Department of Mathematics of t he Faculty of Sciences of the VU University Amsterdam invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral position in the research area of statistics with applications to neuronal network formation.

The Postdoc will be a member of the Stochastics Section of the Department of Mathematics and will carry out her/his research within the group Statistics for Life Sciences. The research will be performed within the NWO-CLS project NETFORM, in close collaboration with scientists of the Department of Integrative Neurophysiology, CNCR, VU University Amsterdam.


Tasks

The Postdoc will develop statistical models and methodology for the analysis of simulated and experimental neuronal data with the goal to elucidate the influence of neuronal morphology on synaptic connectivity patterns. Application of the developed methodology to data also belongs to the tasks.

Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD in mathematics or statistics, or in a related area with an excellent background in statistics and probability, and must have a genuine interest in neurobiology and computational neuroscience. They also should have programming competency with software such as R and Matlab, be fluent in English and have good communication skills.

Salary

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 2.977,- gross per month up to a maximum of € 3.755,- gross per month (salary scale 10) based on a fulltime employment
