Overview
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark has funding for a PhD student for a project in Complexity Theory. The project will be in Linearity and Nonlinearity: Complexity and Measures.
The qualifications necessary for an applicant to have before the start date are:
1. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, with at least one year of courses beyond a Bachelor's degree.
2. A course in Algorithms and Complexity. This is a course beyond a low level course on Data Structures.
3. A good background in mathematics, including a course in algebra (rings and number theory).
4. Excellent grades and letters of recommendation.
5. Interest and motivation to work in this area.
6. Fluency in English.
The expected start date for this scholarship is 1 February, 2011.
An application for this position must contain:
1. A project description.
2. A CV (curriculum vitae).
3. Certified copy of Master diploma or a copy of transcripts for grades during the applicant's Bachelor's and/or Master's studies, with translations, if not originally in English or Danish.
4. At least two letters of recommendation sent with the application.
5. A completed "Application for enrolment at the PhD-programme”.
Application, salary, etc.:
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three or four years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three- or four-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
