PhD Scholarship in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a large, established multidisciplinary research group funded by Science Foundation Ireland. The group aim is to identify and target molecular mechanisms involved in development of schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric disorders. In brief, work will study the role of candidate genes for schizophrenia in animal models. The following techniques will be used: immuno-cito/histo-chemistry and in situ hybridization, genotyping, histological procedures, PCR, primary cultures preparation, in vivo and in vitro physiology, microscopy, use of software for image analysis. Applicants must hold a primary degree in Biological Science. Experience in tissue cultures and/or animal studies and/or electrophysiology would be advantageous. The post will provide excellent experience in this rapidly developing field and may be suitable for candidates wishing to continue with research in academia or in industry.

Provisional Interview Date: January 17th 2011
Proposed Start Date: March 1st 2011
Length of Post: Three years
Salary: 18,000 stipend
