Overview
The Center for 21st Century Studies (C21) at the University of WisconsinMilwaukee offers two postdoctoralfellowships for 2011-12. C21 leads the way in imagining, defining, and creating the burgeoning field of 21st century studies, focusing on the intersection of the humanities, arts, and sciences (social and natural) with issues of compelling concern. C21 organizes its research and public programs around themes that change periodically. Each year C21 constitutes a group of six to eight UWM faculty fellows whose research interests relate to the theme. Nationally and internationally known scholars are brought to campus to address the topic of the years research in seminars, lectures, and conferences. www.C21.uwm.edu / C21@uwm.edu

INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP
$40,000 stipend for the academic year 2011-12 with up to $10,000 additional research and travel stipend available.
INTERDISCIPLINARY HUMANITIES FELLOWSHIP
$40,000 stipend for the academic year 2011-12 with up to $5,000 additional travel stipend available (international applications welcome).
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must have received their doctorates within five academic years previous to the year of award; international applicants must have received their degrees for a non-US university. The Provost Fellowships are designed to further broaden the academic networks of the group of faculty in residence at C21, and are thus unavailable to UW-Milwaukee and UW System faculty. Fellowships are awarded to support interdisciplinary research projects in the humanities, which include, but are not limited to, philosophy, history, literature, religious studies, and art history. Proposals employing humanistic approaches from the social and natural sciences and the arts are also welcome. Applicants should be working on topics related to this years theme What is 21st century studies? TERMS
The Provost Fellows are expected to be in residence for one academic year, participate in bi-weekly Fellows seminars, public events, and lectures, as well as the Centers major annual conference. The Fellows are expected to make a public presentation of research at some point during the year. Fellows are provided with office space, and library privileges. The Provost Fellowships may be held concurrently with other grants, and with sabbatical or other support from home institutions. The Fellowships do not carry health insurance or other benefits.
