Endeavour Vocational Education and Training Award

Overview

The Endeavour VET Award is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit­based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia­Pacific, Middle East, Europe and Americas to undertake vocational study in Australia. The award aims to:

- Develop on­going educational and professional linkages between individuals, organisations and
countries
- Provide opportunities for high achieving individuals from overseas to increase their skills and
enhance their global awareness
- Contribute to Australia’s position as provider of high quality education and training

Participating countries

China (including Hong Kong and Macau SAR), Fiji, Indonesia, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia,Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, European countries (extensive list), Kiribati, Papua NewGuinea, Brazil, Chile, Canada, and USA.


Description of the Endeavour VET Award

The Award provides financial support for up to 2.5 years for international students from participating countries to undertake vocational education at a Diploma level in any field of study in Australia.Vocational education and training provides occupational or work ­related knowledge and skills. The courses are traditionally non ­academic and directly related to a trade, occupation or vocation in which the applicant participates.

The Award aims to:

- Enable students from varied backgrounds to undertake study in Australia
- Further develop Award Holders’ knowledge and skills in their areas of expertise
- Showcase Australia’s vocational education and training sector
- Strengthen mutual understanding between the people of Australia and Award Holders’ home
countries
- Build linkages and networks between Australia and participating countries
- Address skills shortages in Award Holders’ home countries

Eligibility and selection criteria

International applicants applying for the 2011, 2012, 2013, etc round must:

- Be citizens or permanent residents of a participating country and reside in a participating country
- Not be in Australia or have been studying, living or working in Australia the year prior to
commencement
- Be 18 years of age or over at the commencement of their Awards
- Attach evidence of completion of their highest academic achievement (the minimum educational qualification is the equivalent of the Australian Year 10 Certificate)
- Have applied for and gained admission (conditional admission is acceptable) into a Diploma
course at an Australian vocational education institution
-Commence their approved program and Award between January and November the following
year

Selection Criteria

- A record of prior academic achievement and relevant work experience (must be directly related for preferential consideration)
- A proposal that is relevant to the applicant’s needs and interests and those of their home country
- The applicant’s potential to address skills/needs/shortages specific in their home country through the chosen course of study
- The applicant’s ability to successfully complete their proposed course in Australia and potential to participate in their chosen profession and wider community in their home country on return from Australia
- Outstanding community service or civic participation that has benefited your community

Diploma of Hospitality
Diploma of Hospitality (including Cookery or Bakery)
Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing)
Diploma of Information Technology (Networking)
Diploma of Horticulture

Other Diplomas are offered in Business, Management, Automotive, Engineering, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Conservation and Land Management, and Tourism within TAFE Queensland Regional Institutes. Contact Tropical North Queensland TAFE for more information.

Application process

It is essential to obtain a free copy of the application guidelines from the Endeavour Award website to fully understand the process. The first step in the application processes is to make an application to study directly to Tropical North Queensland TAFE prior to 31 July in any year to obtain a Letter of Offer to allow you to apply for the award.
