1. Undergraduate Students

The Embassy of Japan annually selects Thai students to study at undergraduate level at Japanese universities. Applicants must be Thai nationals aged at least 17 and less than 21 years who have completed Mathayomsuksa 6 or upper secondary school by March of the year of commencement of the scholarship. The term of the scholarship is 5 years, or 7 years for the fields of Medical Sciences, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences (including 1 year of Japanese language training). Applications are scheduled in early June of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from April of the following year.
2. Research Students

The Embassy of Japan annually selects Thai students to study as research students at Japanese universities. Applicants must be Thai nationals under 35 years of age who have completed in an undergraduate level course by the year of commencement of the scholarship. The term of the scholarship is 2 years or 1 year and 6 months (including 6 months of Japanese language training). Applications are scheduled in early June of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from April or October of the following year.
3. Japanese Studies Students
The Embassy of Japan annually selects Thai students to study at Japanese universities to enhance their Japanese language abilities, and learn about Japanese culture and society. Applicants must be Thai nationals aged at least 18 and less than 29 years who are second or third year undergraduate students majoring in Japanese language or culture at a university in Thailand. The term of the scholarship is 1 year. Applications are scheduled in early February of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from October of the same year.
4. Teacher Training Students
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Thailand, annually selects teachers under the Ministry of Education in Thailand to receive special training in education at Japanese universities. Applicants must be Thai nationals, under 35 years of age and university graduates. Applicants must have at least 5 years of active experience as a teacher in a primary or secondary school or teacher training college in Thailand. The term of the scholarship is 1 year and 6 months (including 6 months of Japanese language training). Applications are scheduled in January of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from October of the same year.
5. College of Technology Students
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Thailand, annually selects some Thai students to receive specialized education at Japanese Colleges of Technology. Applicants must be Thai nationals aged at least17 and less than 21 years who have completed upper secondary school (Mathayomsuksa 6) by March of the year of commencement of the scholarship. The term of the scholarship is 4 years (including 1 year of Japanese language training). Applications are scheduled in July of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from April of the following year.
6. Specialized Training College Students
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Thailand, annually selects some Thai students to receive professional education at Japanese Specialized Training Colleges. Applicants must be Thai nationals aged at least 17 and less than 21 years who have completed upper secondary school (Mathayomsuksa 6) by March of the year of commencement of the scholarship. The term of the scholarship is 3 years (including 1 year of Japanese language training). Applications are scheduled in July of each year and the tenure of the scholarship starts from April of the following year.
7. Young leaders' Program (YLP) Students
The Embassy of Japan annually selects some Thai government officials and staff of other organizations, who are expected to play active roles as future national leaders in Thailand, to study a master’s degree course (English programme) at a Japanese University or Institution. The term of the scholarship is 1 year. The fields of study are divided into 5 programmes: 1. School of Government, 2. Business Administration, 3. Law, 4. Medical Administration, 5. School of Local Governance.
Applicants must be Thai nationals, less than 40 years old (less than 35 years old for the field of Business Administration), who have completed an undergraduate level course and have at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience. (Qualifications will be specified according to the field of study). Applicants must be nominated by their own office or organization to the Embassy of Japan. Applications are scheduled in September of each year and the tenure of the scholarship will start from October of the following year.
