Career Development Fellowship at MRC National Institute for Medical Research

Overview

The successful candidate will carry out research on metabolomics/functional genomics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a newly established group. The successful candidate will work on functional profiling of mycobacterial enzymes, taking advantage of protein chemistry, enzymology and metabolomics and will be responsible for research in a project focused on the assignment of protein function, discovery of new enzymatic activities and new metabolites, and pathway mapping in M. tuberculosis. This project relies heavily on metabolomic profiling (LC-MS-based), in addition to classic biochemical, biophysical and genetic approaches.

Knowledge and experience of molecular biology, protein chemistry and enzymology are essential. The post-holder is expected to be highly creative and motivated, be able to work within a group, and keep detailed records of experiments and must also have good communication skills (written and verbal), must be prepared to present at informal and formal meetings, and to contribute to scientific publications.

This is a 3 year MRC funded Career Development Fellowship. CDFs are training and development positions for post-doctoral scientists who have either recently completed their doctoral studies, are moving into a new research discipline, have limited previous experience of key transferable skills, or are clinically qualified with little or no research experience. They provide opportunities to develop research project skills and develop collaborative links with colleagues within the Institute and elsewhere.



Benefits

The salary range for this 3 year fixed-term post is from £27,513 per annum inclusive of Location Allowance. Membership of MRC Final Salary Pension Scheme is available.
