Australian Uranium Association Indigenous Leadership Scholarship

Overview

Members of the Australian Uranium Association support local indigenous communities and wish to help build the skills and capabilities of indigenous people in the regions where they do business. As part of their commitment, the Australian Uranium Association is delighted to offer three scholarships to undergraduate students commencing studies in 2012 in the disciplines of Science, Engineering or Business Management. The scholarship is tenable for the duration of the undergraduate course for which it is awarded.

Payments

The value of the scholarship is $10,000 per annum, for each year of undergraduate study. The scholarship funds are to be used, at the student's discretion, to contribute to course costs, as a living allowance or for field trips or the purchase of books or to meet other expenses associated with study. Scholarship holders will receive an amount equal to 1/26th of the total amount to be paid fortnightly.





Eligibility requirements

Eligibility criteria:

Applicant must:

  • be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • have one referee report
  • be enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in an undergraduate course leading to a degree in Science, Engineering or Business Management

Nationality:

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian permanent resident

Level of study:

  • Undergraduate (Bachelor) courses

Study mode:

  • Full-time

Applicant information:

  • Refer to the AUA Indigenous Leadership Scholarship Guidelines in the Application Pack
  • NB: AUA Scholarship holders are ineligible to hold other industry scholarships at the same time

Student opportunity

  • Scholarship holders may be offered paid industry vacation employment during the course of their scholarship

Selection:

The scholarship is awarded to an applicant who, in the opinion of the selection committee, demonstrates through their application, supporting documentation and interview:

  1. Academic achievement
  2. Enthusiasm and willingness
  3. Drive to achieve
  4. Potential to be a leader in the wider indigenous community and business

Members of the Australian Uranium Association's "Indigenous Dialogue Group" will interview shortlisted candidates, focusing on their achievements and aspirations.
