Cambodia: Partnerships Intern in The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Secretariat (UNAIDS)

Overview

The UNAIDS Country Office in Cambodia is seeking a qualified candidate for as a Partnerships Fellow for its internship program.

Background

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Secretariat (UNAIDS) coordinates and supports the efforts of Cosponsors (UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, ILO, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank), to support the multi-sectoral HIV response by the Royal Government of Cambodia, Civil Society Organisations and Development Partners.

UNAIDS Country Office in Cambodia is now seeking a suitable candidate to undertake a six-month internship to assist with a range of tasks related to UN System Coordination, social mobilization, and partnerships. This assignment represents a good opportunity for the incumbent to share knowledge and experience, as well as to learn from others and from practical work in the field. The assignment could be undertaken as part of university studies or training courses at a graduate level.


Description of Duties

The Intern will work under the overall direction of the UNAIDS Country Coordinator and direct supervision of the UNAIDS Social Mobilization, and Partnerships Advisor, and carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Organise regular Joint UN Team on HIV/AIDS, Development Partners Forum on AIDS, Theme Group on AIDS, and other meetings as required, including agenda setting, meeting preparation, minutes taking and ensuring follow-up on key decisions.

2. Act as the UNAIDS Focal Point for the UN Joint Support Programme - Operational Plan and Budget (UNJSP-OPB) in order to support the institutional mechanisms for joint UN planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and review. This includes producing the UNJSP Progress Report, compiling information on planned activities, and preparing for the next UNJSP-OPB 2011-2015).

3. Provide advise and support to the UNAIDS Country Office and Cosponsors in reporting and administrative tasks related to the Programme Acceleration Funds (PAF) funding mechanism, including documenting lessons learned and mapping of PAF activities in Cambodia.

4. Act as the UNAIDS Communications Focal Point, including updating website content and structure, editing of reports and documents, and attending UN Communications Group meetings.

5. Actively represent UNAIDS on a variety of thematic working groups such as the UN Communications Group, UN Youth Working Group, UN Gender and HIV Working Group, and the UN Learning Management Group. The latter includes assisting the UN Learning Facilitators Team in organising UN Learning activities on HIV.

6. Any other duties as assigned by the UNAIDS Country Coordinator and/or Social Mobilisation and Partnerships Advisor.

Expected results /outputs

* Documentation: records of meetings, various narrative and financial reports
* Website content developed and published on relevant pages
* Technical inputs provided to UN Working Groups on Communication, Youth and Gender and HIV, and UN Learning activities carried out

Qualifications/Requirements:

* Enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school[1] in public health or within the field if social sciences

* A sound understanding of the HIV epidemic and responses
* (Paid or unpaid) working experience with government institutions, bi-and multilateral organisations, civil society organizations, networks or other entities within development work agenda
* Good facilitation and excellent interpersonal skills
* Proactive and positive approach to life and work
* Excellent communication and organisation skills
* Ability to compile and analyze information for documents and reports
* Excellent written and spoken English
* Excellent computer skills in MS Office and e-based programmes

The Intern will be based at the UNAIDS Country Office and work under a UNDP internship contract. S/he must either be fully self-financed or all costs related to the assignment (e.g., travel, accommodation, living expenses) must be born under a scholarship or other financing secured directly by the Intern.

- [1] enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship (if a candidate is graduating before the internship period begins, they are no longer eligible); or

- have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages;

- not have graduated prior to the beginning of the internship.
