USA: Intensive English Language Study Program - U.S. Embassy Cambodia

Overview

Scholarization (Study in USA) -- The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2010 East Asian Undergraduate Intensive English Language Study Program under the auspices of the Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of the U.S. Department of State.

The Undergraduate Intensive English Language Study Program will provide eight-week intensive English Language Courses at college and universities in the United States. This program will provide to outstanding undergraduate students in sciences and technical fields from non-elite, under-represented sector in society with intensive English Language Training, including English for academic purposes, leadership skill building, and civic education and engagement.

The courses will be conducted at the University of Delaware (UD) between April 26-June 18, 2010 and June 21-August 13, 2010

Eligible applicants must:

-Be from historically underserved communities;
-Be typically 25 years of age or younger;
-Be committed to returning to their home universities following completion of their institute program;
-Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and potential in their university and community activities;
-Indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States;


-Have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated in grades, awards, and teacher recommendations;
-Have TOEFL test results (or similar test) of approximately 420-480 or other indication of moderate proficiency level of English Language ability;
-Have demonstrate commitment to community and extracurricular university activities;
-Have a valid passport at time of application in order to travel to the U.S. in April;
-Have had little or no prior study or travel experience in the United States or elsewhere outside of their home country;
-Be mature, responsible, independent, confident, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful and inquisitive;
-Be willing and able to fully participate in an intensive academic program, community service, and educational travel program; and,
-Be comfortable with campus life, prepared to share living accommodations, and able to make adjustment to cultural and social practices different from those of their home country.
