The PhD program
Central European University, a graduate institution accredited in the United States and Hungary, invites applications for the PhD Program in Political Science for Academic Year 2011/2012.
The Doctoral School offers five specializations:
•Comparative Politics
•International Relations
•Political Economy
•Political Theory
•Public Policy
The doctoral program of is one of the largest, most international and most competitive programs in Europe. Students, typically coming from more than 30 countries, can choose supervisors from a pool of more than 35 professors. During their studies, doctoral candidates are actively introduced to research networks in their field through participation in graduate conferences and in major research projects. The Doctoral School collaborates with a number of CEU research centers including the Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine, the Center for Media and Communication Studies, the Center for the Study of Imperfections in Democracy, the Center for Environment and Security, the Center for Policy Studies, the Center for European Union Research and the Asia Research Initiative.
PhD fellowships
Admitted students receive the Full CEU Doctoral Fellowship for three years. The Full CEU Doctoral Fellowship covers tuition and medical insurance; in addition, full fellowship recipients are awarded a monthly stipend of around 750 EUR.
Numerous additional funding opportunities exist, such as the Doctoral Research Support Grant Program, as well as various research and travel funds. For more information on financial aid, see: www.ceu.hu/admissions/financialaid/doctoral
Entry Requirements
All applicants must meet the General CEU Admissions Requirements (www.ceu.hu/admissions/apply), and submit:
•online application form
•curriculum vitae
•proof of English proficiency
•1,500-word research proposal
•500-word statement of purpose
•two confidential letters of recommendation
•relevant undergraduate and graduate transcripts and diplomas
•summary of the MA thesis - or equivalent
Applications Deadlines
•January 24, 2011: For applicants who wish/are required to take any CEU-administered admissions examinations and/or are requesting exemption from the English language proficiency requirement
•March 14, 2011: For applicants submitting applications complete with language scores, and for native English speakers
