Overview
The Institute of Culture and History (ICH) is a research institute of the University of Amsterdam that focuses on the study of European culture from a historical perspective. A common element in the research conducted within the ICH is that texts and artefacts are studied not only in isolation, but also within the context of the historical structures and processes in which they were produced and in which they functioned. Conversely, these structures are used to explain the specific presentation of texts and artefacts. The research field is not limited to certain historical periods or areas.
Applications are invited for up to 12 PhD fellowships at the ICH, tenable from September 1, 2011, for a period of up to 4 years (0,8 fte). These fellowships are in part funded by the Humanities Incentives Board in collaboration with the Humanities Division of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research.

Applications should include a description of the proposed research project (max. 2500 words), a full academic CV, and a list of MA courses and grades. Applicants must have a completed MA degree in a relevant field before the start date of the fellowship.
