Overview
The overall aim of the scheme is to attract top quality students from India, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, South Africa, Russia and the developing world to study for doctoral degrees in highly rated UK research environments. Each DHPA award is funded by one of the UK Research Councils and one private sector partner.

Other Criteria
You must have at least the equivalent of a UK first class honours degree from a prestigious academic institution and be demonstrably in the top 20% of DPhil candidates. Awards are only tenable in departments that are RAE-rated 5 or 5*. For a list of these, please see the Oxford RAE results page.

Application procedure
You cannot apply for this award directly. Suitable candidates will either be nominated by the relevant academic department or will be able to respond to an advertisement placed by a department with an award. In either case, you must apply to Oxford for admission to a graduate course.
Closing date
We recommend applying to Oxford by Application Deadline 2 (8 January 2010 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy students; 22 January 2010 for all other subjects). In principle, candidates who apply to Oxford by Application Deadline 3 could also be considered.
Results
Successful candidates will be notified from July 2010 onwards.
