UK: Research Studentship Opportunities at Anglia Ruskin University

Overview

In the recent Research Assessment Exercise the Faculty of Arts Law and Social Sciences achieved outstanding success, with four subject areas rated as having ‘world leading’ research, five subjects as having ‘international’ level research and History and English being rated among the best in the country. As a result the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to be able to offer studentships in the following areas:

Social Sciences: 3 fees-only studentships

Social Sciences at Anglia Ruskin is delivered by an expanding, multidisciplinary team of criminologists, sociologists and public service specialists. We host the Justice and Communities Research Unit and have strong links with our University’s new Cultures of the Digital Economy Research Institute.

We invite applications for studentships to support PhDs in Sociology and/or Criminology, particularly in the following areas: trans-national crime; race and racism; diaspora including the Irish Diaspora; policing; the social, legal and political aspects of forensic science; surveillance, privacy and security.


Requirements

•Applicants should hold a first or upper class degree in a cognate area. Successful applicants would typically hold a Masters degree in a cognate area awarded by a UK university or an overseas Masters of an equivalent standard, provided the Masters is in a cognate area.

•Students for whom English is not their first language must meet our required minimum level of English proficiency (IELTS 6.5 in all skills, or equivalent).

•Previous applicants who have been formally declined should not reapply.

The studentship funds three years’ full-time fees. Holders of studentships in social sciences may have the opportunity to work as graduate teaching assistants on an hourly paid basis.
