Overview
Arts and Humanities Research Council Studentships
University of Sussex - School of Media, Film and Music
In 2009, the University of Sussex was awarded a substantial number of Doctoral and Research Preparation Masters Studentships for the following five years within an AHRC Block Grant Partnership award.
Developing the research potential and impact of our postgraduate students is integral to our vision for research at Sussex. Postgraduate students will also find support for their research and career development through Sussex's Doctoral School.
This year, the School of Media, Film and Music will be offering:
1 Doctoral award in each of the following:
Cultural Studies
Film Studies & Television Studies
Media and Film at Sussex is one of the leading departments in the UK in the field of media theory, practice and research. We have a firmly established reputation in both teaching and research, built on our distinctive interdisciplinary approach. In the 2008 national research assessment exercise (RAE) our results were excellent, placing us joint 8th out of 47 UK departments.
Our internationally respected research explores questions around the materiality and politics of cultural forms and formations. Researchers work on, across and through a range of media: film, television, radio, photography, and 'new' and interactive forms, and specialise within three interlocking fields: media, technology, form and experience; cultural histories/cultural politics; and the politics of representation.
Value of this Studentship
Full and partial awards are also available for the Doctoral Awards which enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (DPhil). A full award covers fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £13,290 (2009/10 rates). A partial award covers fees only. If you are a part time student, support is pro rata.
Deadline
The deadline for applications is 5 March 2010.
