Overview
Full-time Master’s degree programs with instruction in English:
• MA in Semiotics
• MSc in Software Engineering
• MSc in Cyber Security
• MSc in Applied Measurements Science (Metrology)
• MSc in Materials and Processes of Sustainable Energetics
• MA in Wellness and Spa Service Design and Management
A number of scholarships are offered that cover 100% of the tuition fee for two years of the program. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants based on academic merit (results of their Bachelor’s studies). All qualified applicants will be automatically considered (there is no special application form). Applicants must submit complete Master’s program application package.
Erasmus- Mundus programs, delivered in consortium with EU partner universities:
• NordSecMob: Security and Mobile Computing
• IMESS: Economy, State and Society
Full scholarships are available. Deadlines and requirements differ by program. Please consult the website.
PhD students, short-term studies (3-10 months):
Grants from the Estonian government are made available to cover 3-10 month research and study visits of international PhD students at the University of Tartu under fully accredited PhD studies’ programs regardless of the speciality. Candidates can apply throughout the year and applications are reviewed monthly.
PhD degree-seeking students, all faculties, all fields:
All PhD studies at all faculties of the University of Tartu are free. Every faculty and program has a number of PhD study places financed by the Estonian state which provides a monthly stipend of ca 400 EUR/month for the PhD student that receives this state-financed study place. Application deadline: April 15th for non-EU, June 1 for EU.
Students who do not receive a state-financed place with a monthly stipend can still take advantage of the free
tuition.
PhD degree-seeking students, selected priority fields:
Special grants from the Estonian government have been established for international students who wish to enroll in a doctoral program in the following fields:
• Information and Communication Technology
• Materials Technology
• Environmental Technology
• Biotechnology
• Power Engineering
• Health
The grant covers initial relocation expenses, health insurance, annual travel allowance, monthly stipend of ca 400 EUR. Candidates can apply throughout the year and applications are reviewed monthly.
Various scholarships for degree and short-term studies based on country of origin:
Special governmental and ministerial scholarships are available from governments of Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, China, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, Israel, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA to students from these countries to study in Estonia. Please consult website for details.
Grants for Estonian language summer courses
The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia and Archimedes Foundation annually offer scholarships to foreign nationals, pursuant to bilateral intergovernmental or inter-ministerial agreements. The scholarship covers tuition fees for summer courses and an allowance. Recipients pay their own travel expenses to Estonia and back to their country of origin.
Estonian Studies: Bachelor and Master degree (instruction in Estonian)
a number of tuition grants providing an exemption from tuition fee will be available for students interested in studying Estonian history, literature and language. The curricula/programs where the students interested in Estonian Studies can apply to, at both bachelor’s and master’s level, are the following: Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics, History, Literature and Folklore
