Overview
Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan Students for the award of Undergraduate Scholarships offered by Japanese Government for the year 2011 under the above scholarship scheme.
01) General Eligibility requirements:-
(a) Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
(b) Should have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) examination conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka with subjects relevant to the field applicant intends to apply.
(c) Should posses a high proficiency in English.
(d) Should not be an employee under the Government or a statutory body.
(e) Should not be a student already registered for undergraduate courses of study in any University or a State sector Higher Educational Institution in Sri Lanka.
02) Fields of Study:
S.N Field
01- Mechanical Engineering
02- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
03- Information ,Communication & Network Engineering
04- Material Engineering
05- Architecture & Civil Engineering
06- Maritime Engineering
07- Other fields
Note: Applicants for a major in the fields categorized as other fields (International Communication, Management Information Engineering etc.) may have difficulties in finding Colleges of Technology capable of accepting them.
03) Other Conditions:
- Applicant must be willing to learn the Japanese Language in one year period and receive College of Technology education in Japanese.
- Field of study selected at the beginning will not be changed later under any circumstances.
- The Candidate: should be born between April 2nd, 1989 and April 1st, 1994.
- Applicant will be ineligible if he/she
a) is a service member or a civilian employee registered on the active military list.
b) is a grantee of a scholarship from an organization other than the Japanese Government.
c) Was a grantee of a Japanese government scholarship in the past, which less than 3 years shall have passed as of April 1, 2011. counted from the first day of the month that followed the last –payment month of such scholarship .
d) is currently enrolled in a Japanese University with the resident status of “college student”, or will be enrolled in a Japanese University as an other source or self financed international student between the time of application for this scholarship in his/her country and the time the scholarship period is due to begin.
(04) Terms of Award
- Grantee will be provided 125, 000 yen per month
- He/ She will be provided economy class air ticket.
- Fees for entrance examinations, matriculation and tuition at Universities will be paid.
Note: Scholars are required to bring approximately U.S dollar 1500 to covert immediate needs just after arrival in Japan.
(05) Nominations & Final Selections
5.1 Applicants have to sit for the academic examination as follows .
- Japanese and English Language
- Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry as per the applicant's intended major.
5.2 Nominations will be made through an interview conducted by the Japanese Embassy in Colombo for the short listing of applicants on the basis of their results of the above tests.
5.3 These nominations will be sent to the selection authority in Japan through the Japanese Embassy in Colombo.
5.4 The final selections will be made by the Government of Japan accordingly. Therefore no candidate should treat his/her nomination for a scholarship as an acceptance for an award. Acceptance is a matter entirely within the discretion of the awarding agency.

6.1 The originals of following documents should be submitted at the Interview.
Certificate of the G.C.E. O/L Examination
Certificate of the G.C.E. A/L Examination (including the Z Score)
Birth Certificate
National Identity Card/ Postal Identity Card or valid Passport
Evidence for extra curricular activities
(07) Applications:-
- Every Application should conform to the specimen form provided.
- The words "College of Technology, 2011" and the Field of study should be hand or type-written on top left corner of the envelope containing the application.
- The choice of subjects/ field of study should be indicated in descending order in the space provided for in the application
- G.C.E A/L results should be indicated in the application according the number of attempts made, separately.
- Candidates are required to indicate Z Score gained by them at the G.C.E A/L Examination and the grading for each subject in the relevant place of the application.
- A non-refundable payment should be made by affixing a stamp to the value of Rs.50/- in the cage provided for this purpose in the application and cancelled by the candidate's signature.
- If the address of the candidate would be changed after the submission of the application, changes should be intimated in writing including the z score as well.
- Closing Date: Applications will be accepted only up to 4 p.m on 05.05.2010
- Applications, which are not sent according to the above requirements, incomplete in any respect or received late will be rejected.
- Applications should be sent to the following address by registered post or by hand to reach on or before the closing date.
