INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL HISTORY
Eastern Europe and Russia Desk
FIVE-MONTH RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
The International Institute of Social History (IISH) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) is located in Amsterdam. Founded in 1935, it is one of the world's largest documentary and research institutions in the field of social history in general and the history of the labour movement in particular. IISH holds over 3,000 archival collections, some one million printed volumes and about as many audio-visual items. Gathered from all over the world, the IISH collections provide a unique body of materials on social conditions and social movements. For an overview of the IISH collections and their coverage across the globe see: www.iisg.nl/collections .
Facilitating the use of these materials for research by the global scholarly community has always been central to the mission of the IISH. Thanks to the generous help of the retail financial service provider SNS-Reaal the IISH can now proudly announce the launch of a fellowship programme for researchers from Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union who wish to use its collections for the study of labour relations in their home countries, in other parts of the world, or from a comparative or transnational perspective.
