Overview
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge invites applications from outstanding individuals - including recent graduates and current NHS staff - to compete for two fully funded PhD Studentships in Applied Mental Health Research. These opportunities are available as part of an NIHR funded Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) award which brings together internationally renowned researchers in a new and exciting mental health services research venture over the next four years, to conduct and disseminate applied research in the NHS settings, to improve services.

Briefly, research projects are available in the fields of Child Mental Health (particularly the detection of Autism Spectrum Conditions) Adult Disorders (particularly learning disability and long term outcome of head injury), Mental Health and Disability in Old Age and End of Life Care (with emphasis on improving health and well being of older people and improve care at the end of life) and Public Health (particularly the analysis and evaluation of service change and innovation). Eligible Candidates
Applicants will have an excellent first degree in a relevant discipline, are likely to be UK or EU students, and will have experience of or expertise in a relevant methodology for applied research.
Applicants who are short-listed for interview will present their proposals to a selection panel that will include internationally renowned scientists and potential supervisors drawn from the University's Institute of Public Health, and the Department of Psychiatry, early in June 2010.
Benefits
Studentships are three year positions but a 1+3 option would be considered with the first year at the Institute of Health (completing the M.Phil in Epidemiology taught course).
