Overview
Applications are invited from highly motivated students who have gained or are expecting at least an upper second-class degree in a relevant discipline. Studentships will commence October 2010, for three years, leading to the award of a PhD. You will be joining a thriving community of around 50 postgraduate research students within the newly formed Loughborough Design School.
Applications are invited to pursue postgraduate research on topics of interest in the following areas:
Inclusive design and health and wellbeing (D.E.Gyi@lboro.ac.uk)
Ergonomics and a sustainable future (R.A.Haslam@lboro.ac.uk)
Health hazards of visual stimuli (flashing lights, computer games, 3D TV & cinema) (P.A.Howarth@lboro.ac.uk)
Determinants of Falls in Dementia: The Role of Environmental Factors. Project in collaboration with Royal Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (S.M.Hignett@lboro.ac.uk
Perception of vehicle quality - integration of tactile, auditory and visual information. This topic will be suitable for applicants with a background in Engineering or Ergonomics and an interest in vehicle design (N.J.Mansfield@lboro.ac.uk)
An evaluation of the impact of the introduction of electronic patient record systems upon the decision-making and situation awareness of ambulance personnel. Or the development of new systems ergonomics methods and techniques for the analysis of accidents (P.Waterson@lboro.ac.uk)
Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss their research interests with the supervisor indicated before applying.
Amount Awarded
The studentships will cover fees at the UK/EU rate and a stipend of £13,290 per annum (2009/10 rate, increase under review).
