Slovenia: Marie Curie PhD Fellow - ESR in Management of Emerging Technologies for Economic Impact at University of Ljubljana

Overview

University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Economics, a leading business school in the Central Europe, EQUIS and AACSB accredited, is a partner in the Marie Curie Initial Training Network project ManETEI (Management of Emerging Technologies for Economic Impact) funded by the European Union 7th Framework Programme.

ManETEI is an interdisciplinary research network seeking to develop knowledge on the multifaceted phenomenon of managing emergent technologies, and integrates this with an additional focus on advanced capacity building and career development that will benefit early-career researchers.

The ManETEI research and training network brings together the European leading research led institutions such as University of Leeds (UK), Erasmus University Rotterdam (NL), Aalto University (FI), University of Ljubljana (SI), Grenoble Ecole de Management (FR), Fundacion Instituto de Empresa (ES), Fraunhofer Society (DE) and Bayer Technology Services GMBH (DE). This unique network is further supported by strategic partners from industry.

Applications are invited for Early Stage Researcher Fellowships funded as part of Marie Curie Initial Training Networks, under the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme. The project runs from February 1, 2010. Employment will start in September 2010 with the duration of 36 months.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Selected Marie Curie PhD fellow will take part in the ManETEI training programme and conduct a PhD in the research field of Management of Emerging Technologies for Economic Impact. This concerns empirical research on the impact of innovation on industry architectures, emergence and re-configuration of industry architectures as well as design of efficient innovation systems and management of emerging innovations.


The dissertation will consist of:

• an empirical case study of a chosen emerging technology and the accompanying emergent industry dynamics plus their supporting policies (one dissertation),
• an empirical research into design of efficient innovation systems and efficient management of emerging innovations (one dissertation).

The Marie Curie PhD fellow will be responsible for:

• Working on a PhD dissertation.
• Delivering prescribed project objectives on time and within budget.
• Collaborating with other researchers in ManETEI network Communicate and provide information to academic supervisors including the regular attendance at formal supervisory meetings.
• Attend and prepare reports for regular meetings with other members of the ManETEI team, to report progress, agree future work and exchange data/experience.

On a day to day basis the researcher will be responsible to dr. Joze Damijan.

• Candidate must be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research career since gaining a university diploma giving access to doctoral studies, i.e. successful candidates must be able to enter Stage II of the PhD process, which requires a relevant Masters degree and sufficient methods training,
• Good Masters degree in the Social Sciences, Economics, Science and Technology Studies, or related areas,
• Experience with empirical research,
• Experience with formal, mathematical approaches in the social sciences,
• Computer literacy,
• High motivation in performing interdisciplinary research,
• Fluent English,
• Mobility (the willingness to live and work in a foreign country)

We are looking for excellent candidates with an interest in combining empirical economic research and management activities in the field of innovation systems. A sound background in research methods using both, quantitative and qualitative methods is mandatory.

Note: All candidates must NOT be nationals of the country where they seek employment, or have legally resided or have had their main activity in that country for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the starting date.
