Overview
The program is funded by ExxonMobil and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Through this unique scholarship opportunity, ExxonMobil aims to contribute to the Middle East and North Africa region by helping to develop highly skilled and culturally adept individuals. The program also seeks to build relationships with academic leaders by offering a Faculty Sponsor Program to the home academic departments of successful scholars. Some students may qualify for the opportunity to apply their skills through internships with ExxonMobil.
Target candidates
Citizens of Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia or the UAE who have a Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math or Geography. Candidates must have lived in the Middle East/North Africa for 15 years & be fluent in Arabic.
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible:
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math or Geography.
- Demonstrate a history of academic excellence and native fluency in Arabic
- Exhibit exceptional leadership skills and cultural competency
- Be willing and able to travel to a regional location for a final selection activity
- Have valid passports
- Demonstrate English proficiency
- Be willing and able to reside in the United States for the full duration of study; dependents may not accompany scholarship recipients to the U.S.
- Register for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). For details on test preparation and registration, please visit the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) homepage. Some recipients may be required to take further university entrance examinations. Individual testing instructions will be given to recipients.
Please note: A TOEFL score must be submitted with the application or it will not be eligible.
Minimum 550 TOEFL paper based score/213 TOEFL computer based score, a 79-80 on the Internet Based TOEFL test, or 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
Benefits
Recipients will receive full tuition, housing and living expenses, medical insurance, textbook and computer allowance. The award also includes transportation to the U.S. at the inception and conclusion of the program, visa and academic support, and an intensive orientation program.

Applicants must fill out an online application. The application includes: essays, 9 application pages with itemized sections, 1 signature page, letter of reference forms and the submission of university transcripts and TOEFL & GRE score reports.
