Overview
The IIFM stands in a responsible position to meet the requirements of the changing scenario in the forestry and allied sector. It is constantly striving to update itself and accordingly respond to the needs of all concerned stakeholders. Given the emerging, and much-needed, emphasis on biodiversity conservation and ecological and economical role that the forests play, IIFM suitably modifies its focus, activity frame and course structure to successfully meet these needs. The National Forest Policy of 1988 strongly advocated ‘participatory regime’ in forest management and opened avenues for non-government agencies to work in forestry and related environmental and socio-economic sectors. Involvement of NGOs in the areas of social forestry, watershed development, joint forest management, and collection and sale of NTFP, thus, started expanding. All these activities not only require human-power, possessing a desired blending of skills of forestry and management sciences but also need the professional assistance and guidance for capacity building, project implementation and monitoring. Therefore, IIFM through its educational, training, research and consultancy activities has planned to endeavor to meet this emerging need.
