We are offering more than 100 funding awards for PhD students for 2011 entry to show our commitment to developing the next generation of researchers.
Ranked 12th in the Times Good University Guide 2011, we are a research intensive university with a strong reputation. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, all our 31 subjects were assessed as including world-leading (4*) research and nearly 90 per cent of our research was rated as being internationally recognised.
PhD funding is available in science, arts, humanities and social sciences subjects. Awards vary according to the subject area and range from full studentships covering all fees and a maintenance grant for three years to partial funding. Awards may be open to both UK/EU and international students*. We offer:
- a world-class research environment with £120 million being invested in our research infrastructure
- high rates of PhD completion with 92% of students completing within 5 years
research which has an impact on the world and is engaged with the business sector, industry and communities
- strong interdisciplinary research culture with opportunities to work at the interface of science, humanities, arts and social sciences
- superb research and teaching training for PhD students through our Effective Researcher Development Programme and Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Programme
