PhD Scholarship in Nanomanufacturing

Overview

Nanomanufacturing is an exciting field where objects at the scale of a few nanometers can be manipulated and individually assembled. Although there is immense potential in this field, any realization of large-scale assembly of individual components at the nanoscale has remained elusive. In this project we will aim to use nanomechanical probes to pick and place individual components into 3-D assemblies. This is a challenging project working at the intersection of mechanical engineering, physics and chemistry. The student will have the opportunity to be very creative and can potentially shape the outcome of this project.

A student working on this project will become a world-expert in advanced measurement techniques, advanced probe-based technologies as well as develop a deep understanding of the industrial applications of nanomanufacturing. The student must be willing to show initiative, and develop leadership qualities to drive the research field and have ambitions to establish her/himself as a pioneer in this field.
