Overview
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and the University of Leeds are delighted to announce the start of the SPDC Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for the 2011/2012 academic session for applicants from Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States. The objective of the scheme is to give talented students from the three Niger Delta States an opportunity to further their education at prestigious universities in the UK. The scholarships are being offered in fields of study that are relevant to the oil and gas industry.
The scholarship awards will cover tuition fees, one return flight from Nigeria to the UK and a contribution towards living expenses (based on annual British Council rates). Under the scheme, up to 2 scholarships will be awarded for one-year post-graduate studies in any of the following courses:
(i) MSC EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICS
(ii) MSC (ENG) OILFIELD CORROSION ENGINEERING
Eligibility Criteria
The competition for scholarships will be intense and applicants must:
Display intellectual ability and leadership potential;
Display high proficiency in English language, i.e. at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing Scheme and meet the university’s language requirements;
Be between 21-30 years;
Be indigenes of Bayelsa, Delta or Rivers States, provide documentary evidence thereof and
currently reside in Nigeria;
Intend to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study;
Have obtained a degree of at least an equivalent standard to a UK Upper Second Class
(Honours Degree);
Have confirmed admission into either of the specified courses at University of Leeds.
Be neither a current nor former employee (who have left employment less than 5 years before) of SPDC or the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies;
Not previously have studied in the UK or other developed country.
Scholarship application forms will be available ONLY through the University following admission. The submission deadline for scholarship applications for the 2011/2012 academic year is 28 March 2011.
