The Department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter is a growing, collaborative, research community committed to providing an excellent interdisciplinary environment for postgraduate students. The Department has strengths in biblical studies, inter-testamental studies, Patristics, ethics and applied theology, theology and contemporary issues and theology and embodiment.
Interchange between the disciplines provides a stimulating and supportive environment for research. Key research themes include scriptural hermeneutics, applied theology, environmental ethics, theological aesthetics and the role of theology in the public sphere. There is also a cluster of work on placing religious texts from the Eastern Mediterranean in their religious, social and political contexts.
