Austria: Bronislaw Geremek Fellowships 2010/2011, Institute for Human Sciences (IWM)

Overview

The Bronislaw Geremek Fellowship enables young Polish doctoral or post-doctoral researchers to work on their own projects on Polish national heritage in the context of European tradition. The fellowship is open to all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences; research proposals related to one of the IWM´s main fields are strongly encouraged (for details please see www.iwm.at/research.htm).

Fellows will spend a ten-month term from September 2010 through June 2011 at the IWM in Vienna and receive a stipend of EUR 2.000 per month to cover accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance and incidentals. The IWM will provide a personal office, IT infrastructure, access to the internet, in-house research facilities and other relevant sources in Vienna.

Eligible Candidates

- must currently pursue a doctoral degree or have recently obtained a Ph.D. in any discipline in the humanities or social sciences
- must be Polish citizens or permanently reside in Poland
- must not be older than 35 years

The application consists of the following materials:

1. the application form (please download from http://info.iwm.at/Geremek10.zip)
2. a concise research proposal in English (max. 4 pages, double-spaced, A4) including
- the scientific problem(s) addressed
- critical consideration of current relevant literature
- research goals and expected results
- work and time schedule; if the duration of the project exceeds the ten-month term at the IWM, please indicate which part shall be completed during the fellowship
3. a curriculum vitae
4. two letters of recommendation by scholars familiar with the applicant´s academic work
