Europe: Erasmus exchange - Master of Studies in the Study of Jewish–Christian Relations

Overview

Through the University of Cambridge, we have three international agreements in place that enable exchange of students and staff in the MSt in The Study of Jewish–Christian Relations. These agreements are the first of the kind that the University of Cambridge has at the MSt level.

Students and staff have a unique opportunity to research and otherwise explore Jewish–Christian relations in some of the key places of their history and contemporary era. This is particularly a value added to all MSt students by providing them with additional academic experience in field and archival research, language training and exposure to an the academic environment of our partner institutions.

In Poland, we have two partners: The Department of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, which is one of Europe’s finest institutions in the field. Our alumna and tutor of many years, Dr Anna Szczepan-Wojnarska initiated the partnership with the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, one of the world’s seminal places of Jewish culture and Jewish–Christian relations. In the Czech Republic, we have direct access to Pilsen, the area of vibrant ethno-religious history with major role of Jewish–Christian relations through partnership with the West Bohemian University in Pilsen, Centre for Near Eastern Studies.

Eligible Candidates

Students must be at least at Master’s level; PhD students are also welcome.Students must demonstrate proficiency in English and meet the same criteria as those for MSt students. See here for details.

Fees

The MSt tuition fees (for both UK/EU and international students) are set at £4900 altogether for both years.
You will also need to pay a College fee of ca. £350-450 each year.
Please ensure you budget realistically for the costs of travel, accommodation and other living expenses during the residential parts of your studies in Cambridge.

Financial assistance

You are allowed to work to support your studies. You may also be able to receive funding from the following sources:

CJCR BursariesThe CJCR usually has funds at its disposal to assist MSt students with a variety of bursaries. If your ability to study is likely to depend on financial support, please indicate and explain this clearly in your application. Limited funding may also be available towards research costs in your second year. If you have specific queries, please contact Lucia Faltin.

In 2010, the CJCR can also offer two studentships, covering the full tuition fees for both years.
College studentships and bursariesYour College may be able to offer your various forms of financial support for which you will need to apply directly to your College. Since you will only be able to apply for College studentships if you already hold a formal offer to study with us, your chances are likely to be higher the earlier you apply.

AHRC FundingApplicants for the MSt are eligible to apply for the Research Preparation Master's Scheme studentships allocated to the Faculty of Divinity as part of the Block Grant of the University of Cambridge. If you wish to be considered for AHRC funding, your application must reach us by late January of the year in which you want to begin your studies at the very latest. Potential applicants for AHRC funding should contact the Academic Director, Lars Fischer, as soon as possible.

You are also encouraged to approach other potential donors, such as foundations and diocesan trusts, to seek further support.
